Proposed Development of 315 Homes Near Gloucestershire Royal Hospital

An updated proposal for the construction of 315 residential units on a former railway depot in Gloucester, adjacent to the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, is scheduled for potential approval next week. Eutopia Homes aims to develop 7.9 acres of land, comprising former railway sidings, a depot, and commercial business premises on Great Western Road.

The site, previously owned by Network Rail, is largely flat and borders Great Western Road to the north and Horton Road to the east. The proposal includes the construction of 228 flats and 87 houses, a new vehicle access from Great Western Road, and associated landscaping and infrastructure. While planning permission was initially granted in February, the updated application is to be discussed by councillors.

However, concerns have been raised by local residents and organizations, citing potential traffic congestion and parking issues, as well as design considerations, particularly related to the orientation of terraced housing and architectural aesthetics.

Eutopia Homes' Director, Lorna Henderson, emphasized the necessity to address the housing demand in Gloucester, aiming to contribute to the local economy by creating construction jobs and providing new housing opportunities. The City Council officers have recommended approval, with the final decision to be made by councillors in the upcoming meeting scheduled for December 5.
