Prolific Shoplifter Sentenced Following Theft Spree at Tesco and Superdry

Kayleigh McConnon, 37, a repeat offender with no fixed address, has been sentenced to 66 weeks in prison after a series of shoplifting incidents at Tesco and Superdry stores in Cheltenham.

McConnon appeared at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, February 11, where she pleaded guilty to five counts of theft from shops and five counts of breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).

Previously, in October 2025, McConnon was issued the CBO after admitting to stealing perfume sets valued at £387. The order prohibited her from entering most retail premises in Cheltenham, allowing exceptions only for five specific locations including Tesco Superstore on Colletts Drive and Primark on Cheltenham High Street.

Despite the restrictions, McConnon repeatedly entered shops, stealing food, drinks, and clothing. Surveillance and witness reports revealed that she visited Tesco Express on Hewlett Road three times, stealing goods worth several hundred pounds. She also took a bag of clothing from Superdry, also valued at several hundred pounds.

Following investigations, officers from the Cheltenham Neighbourhood Policing Team arrested McConnon on February 10. Her subsequent conviction and sentencing underscore the police’s commitment to tackling retail crime.

PC Louis Gilbert of the Cheltenham Neighbourhood Policing Team stated: “McConnon has been a significant problem for local businesses. We prioritized her arrest and prosecution to protect our community. This sentencing sends a clear message that retail crime will not be tolerated in Cheltenham. I want to thank my colleagues for their dedication and support throughout this case.”
