Princess Kate Shares Why She Has Quit Alcohol Following Cancer Diagnosis

The Princess of Wales has opened up about why she has chosen to give up alcohol following her cancer diagnosis earlier this year. During a recent visit to the Fabal Beerhall at the Southwark Brewing Company on London’s Bermondsey Beer Mile, Princess Kate explained her decision to the brewery’s founder, Hannah Rhodes.

The royal couple attended the brewery on Thursday, exploring the independent breweries and taprooms renowned in the London Bridge area. While Prince William sampled lagers and ciders, Kate declined to drink alcohol, citing her health. When Ms. Rhodes asked if she was a regular beer drinker, the princess replied that since her cancer diagnosis in 2024, it had been best to avoid alcohol.

Kate also showed interest in the brewery’s use of raw British honey in their drinks, and William, who joked about Kate’s own beekeeping hobby, engaged warmly with the team. The royal visit turned lively with a friendly pint-pulling contest between the couple and brewery founder Peter Jackson. Although initially reluctant, Kate tried her hand at pulling a pint, with Mr. Jackson coaching the pair through the process.

William complimented their efforts, humorously suggesting they might have outperformed Mr. Jackson himself. The couple also video-called Mr. Jackson’s son to wish him a happy birthday and joked about their new pint-pulling skills.

In addition to the contest, the couple participated in the brewing process—William adding hops, and Kate stirring the boil with a wooden stick. As they departed, the princess warmly acknowledged a small crowd gathered outside, waving to those eager to catch a glimpse of the royals.

This visit not only highlighted Princess Kate’s personal health journey but also showcased the royal couple’s support for local businesses and artisanal brewing traditions.
