Princess Eugenie has announced the name of her first daughter, born on 3 August in Lisbon, Portugal. The newborn, the couple’s third child, weighed 6lb 9oz at birth.
Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank shared the name on Instagram, revealing their daughter is called Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank. The choice honours “three people we love and admire past and present,” including Adelaide’s late great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. The name also symbolises the couple’s connection to both English and Portuguese history - two countries they cherish and consider home.
The name Adelaide is believed to be inspired by Queen Adelaide (1792–1849), consort to King William IV, as well as Maria Adelaide of Portugal. The middle name Annina holds personal significance for Eugenie and Jack, though they have not disclosed the details publicly.

Adelaide joins older brothers August, aged five, and Ernest, aged three, affectionately known as Augie and Ernie. The baby’s birth abroad is a relatively uncommon event for the British royal family, reflecting the couple’s ties to Portugal, where they own a home.
In her Instagram post, Eugenie shared photographs of the family, including a tender moment with Ernest holding Adelaide’s hand. She wrote, “Two weeks ago today we welcomed our girl to the world. And since then we’ve had the most special, cosy and love-filled time.
“We are so happy to share Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank. Named after three people we love and admire past and present, including her great-grandmother who we hold close in our hearts.
“Her name is part of English and Portuguese history, two places we love and call home.
“Augie and Ernie are already the best big brothers.”
