Zara Tindall, daughter of Princess Anne, recently gave a heartfelt insight into the royal family’s inner dynamics, revealing that despite their public prominence, they face many of the same struggles as any ordinary family. Speaking at a London Sporting Club lunch event, the 43-year-old equestrian and mother of three acknowledged, “It is very hard to see from the outside, but 100%, it is a family that is still going through the same struggles other people do. Whether they are relationships, obviously, it is very easy to see every day. We’re still very supportive of each other.”
Zara also paid tribute to her late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, describing her as a remarkable and inspirational figure. Reflecting on the Queen’s passing in September 2022, Zara commented, “We had a very incredible person to look up to who is sadly not here any more. She was amazing and an inspiration to all of us.”
In a lighthearted moment, Zara shared a playful story from the early days of her relationship with husband Mike Tindall, a former rugby star. Recalling an amusing incident from 2003, she said, “I said, ‘If you get naked, I will give you a kiss.’ So he got naked, I gave him a kiss and then… anyway.” She humorously added, “He was so drunk and he passed out and I had to leave him there. One of my mates had to come and pick him up. I can’t move a 20-stone rugby player when he has passed out.”

Married since 2011, Zara and Mike have three children: Mia, Lena, and Lucas. Mike has openly expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome he received from the royal family. In a 2021 interview with The Telegraph, he praised their kindness, crediting the late Queen for her role in making everyone feel part of the family. He said, “I can only say how kind they’ve been to me, and how welcoming they’ve been to me since joining the family. And how they’ve made my family welcome… They’re a fantastic family.” Mike also shares a strong connection with Zara’s mother, Princess Anne, who was recently named patron of Scottish Rugby’s Murrayfield Injured Players Foundation.
When asked what he calls Princess Anne during a Good Morning Britain appearance, Mike simply replied with affection, “Mam,” underscoring the close bonds within the family.
