Princess Anne Reveals Warm Approval of New Royal Family Member at Royal Ascot

Princess Anne has demonstrated a clear and warm approval of the newest member of the Royal Family, royal commentators revealed during a special segment of Palace Confidential at Royal Ascot’s Ladies Day.

Host Jo Elvin opened the discussion by addressing the growing attention on a “new member” of the Firm making an appearance at the prestigious racing event. Claire Cisotti, editor of MailOnline’s Royal Channel, expressed enthusiasm about Harriet Sperling, the new girlfriend of Princess Anne’s son, Peter Phillips.

Claire praised Harriet’s sophisticated Suzannah London ensemble and charming straw boater hat, remarking that she looked impeccably styled, “head to toe” like royalty. This was further echoed by Rebecca English, royal editor for the Daily Mail, who highlighted Harriet’s inclusion in the Royal Ascot carriage procession as a significant gesture—one that indicates the seriousness of their relationship.

When asked about Princess Anne’s stance on Harriet, Rebecca confidently stated, “Well, I would say she wouldn’t be here if she didn’t,” suggesting implicit royal approval. Claire added, “Princess Anne doesn’t smile often, but she was definitely smiling warmly at Harriet in that stunning outfit.”

Rebecca also noted Harriet’s refreshing contribution to the Royal Family, emphasizing that she is an NHS Paediatric Nurse Specialist—a role that resonates positively given her public service background. Harriet first appeared publicly with Peter Phillips at the 2024 Badminton Horse Trials. In addition to her nursing career, she is a freelance writer and a single mother, with her maiden name being Sanders.

During Royal Ascot, Harriet joined Peter for the official carriage procession, where they were seen sharing affectionate moments in the royal enclosure. The following day, she wore a vibrant yellow outfit complemented by a matching fascinator and an Anya Hindmarch bag. A total of 10 royal family members took part in the official procession, with King Charles and Queen Camilla leading the event in the first carriage, despite high temperatures.

Notably, Princess Anne’s carriage encountered a technical issue earlier in the week as it traveled through Cheapside, Berkshire, when the reins of one of the horses fell. Royal aides quickly intervened to resolve the situation. Sharing the carriage with Princess Anne were The Duchess of Wellington and Mrs. Annabel Elliot, Queen Camilla’s sister.

Local resident Paul Arora described the procession to the press as a quintessentially English spectacle, with enthusiastic local support and favorable weather, save for the carriage incident. The scene underscored the enduring connection between the Royal Family and the communities they engage with during such traditional events.
