Princess Anne Receives Quirky Gifts as King Charles Welcomes £340,000 Rolls-Royce

A recently published list revealing gifts received by the British Royal Family between 2020 and 2023 shows a stark contrast in offerings to King Charles and his sister, Princess Anne.

Buckingham Palace disclosed the list this week, detailing gifts presented to senior royals, including the late Queen Elizabeth II. The former monarch received an eclectic range of items from dog coats to a wine vessel and a silver box.

King Charles’ gifts, especially around the time of his coronation, were particularly notable. Royal editor Rebecca English reported that he received over 260 gifts, among them a striking Rolls-Royce Cullinan II valued at approximately £340,000. This luxurious vehicle, gifted by the King of Bahrain, is crafted with the finest materials for those who “excel beyond limits,” according to the official Rolls-Royce website. Although lavish, the car is part of the Royal Fleet and designated for official duties, not the King’s personal use.

In contrast, Princess Anne’s gifts were far more unusual and modest. Her collection included a model slurry tanker, five mouth guards, multiple rugby balls, tartan fabric, edible treats, and notably, 51 acorns presented in a box. The variety highlights her connection to diverse interests and perhaps a nod to her down-to-earth character.

Additional interesting gifts recorded include gold Blue Peter badges, a mosaic piece, a cobble from the Coronation Street set, and pony blankets, adding to the eclectic mix of items received by the Firm.

In a related anecdote that resurfaced, Princess Anne’s candid response during a 1990 visit to Moscow revealed her no-nonsense attitude. When asked if Buckingham Palace was her private property, she clarified with a smile that it is a state-owned establishment where she works but does not own.

Currently, Anne resides at Gatcombe Park, a grand Georgian estate in Gloucestershire given to her by Queen Elizabeth II upon her marriage to Captain Mark Phillips. She shares the home with her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence, while her children Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips live nearby with their families.
