Prince William Opens Up on Kate Middleton’s Health and Her Inspirational Italy Visit

Prince William has expressed profound pride and admiration for his wife, Kate Middleton, following her recent trip to Italy—their first major overseas engagement since her cancer treatment. The Princess of Wales visited Reggio Emilia in northern Italy to explore the renowned ‘Reggio Emilia Approach,’ an innovative early childhood education method that emphasizes creativity, play, and child-led learning.

This visit was closely connected to The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, an initiative founded by Kate in 2021. While in Reggio Emilia, she met with educators, families, young children, and local community leaders as part of a “fact-finding mission,” according to Kensington Palace.

Kate’s journey marked a significant milestone in her recovery journey and was a source of deep pride for Prince William. Speaking on the Heart Radio Breakfast Show live from Cornwall on May 22, William described Kate’s resilience and dedication. “[I’m] so proud. I’m very, very proud. She has been amazing, she’s been through so much in the last couple of years, particularly,” he said. “She had been looking forward to the Italian trip a lot, so I’m really glad it went really well.”

Reflecting on the emotional significance of Kate resuming her royal duties, the radio hosts acknowledged the difficulty she faced balancing family and public responsibilities during her illness. William agreed, saying, “She’s an amazing mum and an amazing wife and literally our family couldn’t cope without her. She’s been absolutely stunning, she really has.”

When asked about future international trips, William revealed that Kate is gradually returning to official engagements, stating, “She’s sort of edging herself back into doing more of those trips.” He also stressed the importance of balancing royal duties with her well-being, noting, “We have to make sure she’s okay and rested but she’s in good form.”

Kate announced in January 2025 that she was in remission following chemotherapy, expressing relief and a continued focus on recovery. During her Italian visit, she demonstrated enthusiasm for further global engagements. The Times reported that she eagerly asked her team, “Where next?” underscoring her commitment to fostering human connection in an increasingly digital world—a challenge she sees as vital to address.

A spokesperson from Kensington Palace confirmed the Italian trip might be the beginning of a broader international initiative led by Kate. “She was extremely inspired by what she saw this week and will be pushing the team to quickly find out where’s next on the map. This is the first chapter in a much broader global effort led by the princess,” the spokesperson said.
