Prince William and Kate Middleton Honor Remembrance Day with Special Engagements

On Tuesday, November 11, the Prince and Princess of Wales will participate in separate events to mark Armistice Day, each honoring the significance of remembrance in their own heartfelt ways.

Prince William will deliver a powerful video message to young people across the UK during the Royal British Legion’s Remembrance Assembly. This virtual event, accessible via YouTube and Zoom, will connect children aged 9-14 from schools, libraries, and home education settings nationwide. In his address, the Prince emphasizes the universal importance of remembrance, highlighting how wearing a red poppy symbolizes gratitude and ensures the stories of courage are carried forward.

“Armistice Day is an important time for us to stop and reflect – it is a reminder that remembrance is for everyone,” William says. “Remembrance teaches us empathy, resilience and responsibility… When we wear a red poppy or take a moment of silence, we are saying, ‘Thank you. We have not forgotten, and we will not forget.’” Drawing on his military experience and close ties with all branches of the armed forces, he calls on young people to honor both veterans and those currently serving, underscoring the continued relevance of these values amid global conflicts.

The assembly will also feature poignant testimonies from Second World War veterans, including 101-year-old George Durrant of the Intelligence Corps and 100-year-old Prince Albert Jacob of the Royal Air Force, offering reflections that bring history to life.

Meanwhile, Kate Middleton will attend the Service of Remembrance at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. The ceremony will begin at 10:45 a.m., including a two-minute silence at 11 a.m., wreath laying at the Armed Forces Memorial, and the reading of “A Sonnet For Us All,” a specially commissioned poem by poet in residence Arji Manuelpillai. The poem captures the emotional stories represented by the arboretum’s memorials and resonates deeply with the Princess, for whom service and compassion are profoundly significant.

Following the service, Kate will observe the dedication of new names on the Armed Forces Memorial and meet with attending veterans. Later, Prince William will join the King and Queen at Windsor Castle for a reception honoring veterans who served in the Pacific during World War II, commemorating the 80th anniversary of VJ Day. The event will also be attended by the Duke of Edinburgh and the Duchess of Gloucester.

These engagements highlight the Royal Family’s ongoing commitment to honoring those who have served and continue to serve, ensuring their sacrifices are never forgotten.
