Prince William and Princess Kate, along with their three children, have called Adelaide Cottage on the grounds of Windsor Castle home since 2022. However, sources close to the royal family suggest that the couple is contemplating a move to a larger and more private estate to accommodate their expanding needs.
The favored property appears to be Fort Belvedere, an impressive eight-bedroom Gothic Revival mansion steeped in royal history. Fort Belvedere was famously the residence of Edward VIII, where he drafted his abdication in 1936. The estate boasts extensive amenities including a rose garden, walled and kitchen gardens, a large greenhouse, swimming pool, tennis court, stables, multiple lakes, paddocks, and three staff cottages.
An insider shared with the Mail, “They feel they have outgrown Adelaide Cottage and need somewhere more substantial. This is the perfect new home for them. It has a swimming pool and tennis court, and Charlotte loves playing tennis.” The couple is known to prioritize privacy and a countryside setting, both features that Fort Belvedere offers in abundance.

While previous rumors suggested the family might move into Royal Lodge in Windsor, this option seems less likely due to Prince Andrew’s current residence there. Other speculation pointed toward a residence within Windsor Castle itself, though no concrete plans have been confirmed.
Currently, William and Kate split their time between Adelaide Cottage, their main family home, and Kensington Palace in London, which serves as their official residence and workplace. This arrangement is believed to provide their children with a balance of royal duties and a relatively normal upbringing.
In addition to these homes, the family also owns Anmer Hall on the Sandringham Estate, a countryside retreat gifted by the Queen and frequently used during the pandemic. They also have Tam-Na-Ghar on the Balmoral Estate in Scotland, a gift from the Queen Mother, situated near King Charles’ residence at Birkhall. In Wales, their home is Llwynywermod, located in the Duchy of Cornwall, and acquired by King Charles when he was Prince of Wales.
With privacy and more space as key considerations, a move to Fort Belvedere could mark the next chapter for the Prince and Princess of Wales as their family continues to grow.
