Primary School Closes Due to Electrical Fault Causing Heating Loss

Berkeley Primary School in Gloucestershire has closed its doors today, Tuesday, January 6, after an electrical fault led to a loss of heating and electricity on the premises. The school made the difficult decision to close for health and safety reasons, emphasizing that it cannot operate without power or heating.

Communication lines are currently down, leaving the school unable to use phone or internet services. As a result, all updates are being shared through Facebook and parent representative groups. The school urges parents who are not part of online groups to inform others about the closure.

To accommodate students, the school arranged an early lunch and asked parents to collect their children at 1:20 pm. Parents are requested not to pick up pupils before this time to maintain efficient logistics and ensure safeguarding protocols.

The closure also affects the after-school “Explorers” program; however, “Little Jesters” remains unaffected as it operates on a separate power source. Families with children in both programs can coordinate pickups accordingly.

Staff members will be available on-site for any students who cannot be collected promptly, providing reassurance for parents. Berkeley Primary anticipates providing an update on the situation by Wednesday morning, with hopes that the issue can be resolved swiftly.

In a heartfelt message to parents, the school acknowledged the disruption at the start of the new year and expressed gratitude for the community’s understanding and support during this unexpected challenge.
