Cheltenham Town boss Steve Cotterill was full of praise following a hard-fought 2-1 victory at Barrow, highlighting the team’s resilience, the support of their travelling fans, and updates on player futures.
“I’m delighted with a brilliant team performance and a great win for us,” Cotterill said. “Our supporters made an incredible journey, and it’s only right we reward them. This win means a lot as we face a tough run ahead, making it all the sweeter.”
The manager acknowledged the challenging conditions during the first half, especially the strong wind, which Barrow tried to exploit with multiple corners. “The wind was unbelievable early on, and we had to adapt our play. We’ve transformed from a team that struggled defensively at the season’s start to one that now confidently clears everything out of our box,” Cotterill noted.

Cotterill praised Jordan Thomas’ skillful setup for the opening goal, which Hakeeb Adelakun finished off, marking his first goal for the club. “JT showed the improvement we’ve worked on, and Haks deserved that goal after his hard work on fitness,” he added. The manager was also pleased with Ethon Archer’s decisive contribution after coming on as a substitute.
Reflecting on conceding an early second-half goal, Cotterill admitted disappointment but emphasized the team’s strong response. “We addressed the issue at halftime, but it happened early in the second half. Still, we regained control and created numerous chances, which was very encouraging.”
With back-to-back away wins, Cotterill feels Cheltenham is beginning to turn their form around. “We needed to improve on our away form and overall results. It’s rewarding to see us win, especially playing some good football.”
When asked about retaining key players, Cotterill was honest on the uncertainty. “I’d love to keep them, but in football, nothing is guaranteed. We’ll adapt regardless of who stays or leaves. The important thing is that our supporters remain loyal, and I love them for that.”
Looking ahead to a busy Christmas schedule, the manager assured the players would get a well-deserved break before preparing for the Boxing Day fixture.
Cotterill spoke warmly about the squad’s spirit, especially younger players who have responded well when given opportunities. “These boys trust me, and I trust them. I do everything I can for them, and they repay that on the pitch.”
Finally, he paid tribute to the 94 travelling fans at Barrow, emphasizing their importance regardless of numbers. “Whether it’s 94 or 9,400, they deserve our thanks. Their support fuels the team, and they’ll be heading home with warm hearts tonight.”
He also touched on future player movements, expressing a relaxed but realistic approach. “If players like Ethon leave, it’s sad but part of the game. We wish them well, and we’ll keep pushing forward no matter what.”
