Police Update on Two-Car Crash Causing Major Delays on A40 Cheltenham

A two-car collision on the A40 westbound in Cheltenham caused significant traffic delays yesterday during the evening rush hour. The accident, which occurred just before 4:30pm on Monday, March 16, led to the partial closure of the Gloucester-bound carriageway.

Gloucestershire Constabulary responded promptly and confirmed that the occupants of both vehicles were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure. No further details about injuries have been released.

The crash resulted in heavy congestion stretching from the B4063 Arle Court Roundabout all the way to the M5 Golden Valley junction. Motorists faced lengthy queues until the obstruction was cleared at approximately 5:40pm.

A Gloucestershire Constabulary spokesperson said: “We were called to the A40 Golden Valley around 4:25pm following reports of a two-vehicle collision. The road was blocked but reopened just after 5:40pm. The involved occupants were transported to hospital to be checked as a precaution.”

Traffic remained slow around the Cheltenham Hospital area and the Golden Valley Bypass throughout the evening. According to traffic monitoring service Inrix, the incident was first reported at 4:53pm and the delays persisted until the road fully cleared by 6:20pm.
