Police Update Following Arrest in Connection with Gloucester House Fire Murder

Investigations continue after a woman was arrested in relation to the death of an elderly woman in a house fire in Gloucester. The suspect, a woman in her 60s from Gloucester, was taken into custody on suspicion of murder and arson with intent to endanger life following the incident that occurred early on Sunday, 16 August.

Emergency services were dispatched to a property on Elmgrove Road West in Hardwicke shortly before 4am after reports of a fire. Upon entering the premises, officers discovered a woman in her 90s unconscious inside. Despite immediate efforts to resuscitate her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim’s next of kin have been informed of the tragedy. Gloucestershire Police have confirmed that a custody extension has been granted to allow further questioning of the arrested woman as the investigation remains ongoing.
