A serious police investigation is underway following a devastating house fire in Stroud, where three people remain unaccounted for. The fire erupted in the early hours of Boxing Day (December 26) on Brimscombe Hill.
Gloucestershire Police confirmed that although one person escaped the blaze, three individuals believed to have been inside the property have not been located. The coroner has been notified as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Authorities from Gloucestershire Police and Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service are working together to determine the cause of the fire. A safety cordon remains in place around the scene, with emergency services expected to stay on site for several days.

In an official statement, Gloucestershire Police said: “Enquiries continue following the house fire on Brimscombe Hill. An investigation is being carried out alongside the Fire and Rescue Service. The coroner has been informed. We ask that people respect the privacy of those affected during this tragic and difficult time, and refrain from speculation.”
Local councillor Chloe Turner expressed gratitude to the emergency teams: “The Fire & Rescue teams, supported by district officers, are working hard amidst challenging conditions. We thank them deeply for their efforts. Residents are asked to remain patient with any temporary travel delays near the area. A police presence will remain on site around the clock until the situation is resolved.”
Councillor Turner also encouraged those impacted to seek emotional support by contacting the Red Cross helpline.
Stroud MP Simon Opher described the incident as heartbreaking for the entire community. “Our sympathies are with everyone affected. We are coordinating with the police to offer support to victims and their families. We appreciate the professional response of emergency services during this difficult time, and our thoughts remain with all involved.”
