Residents of Fairford are being advised to expect a significant police presence in the town this weekend due to an upcoming protest outside the Royal Air Force base.
The demonstration, planned for Saturday, 15 August, is organised by three campaign groups: Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), Stop the War, and Fairford Action. The protest aims to oppose the United States' military actions against Iran amid escalating tensions between the two nations.
The campaigners highlight that RAF Fairford, located in the Cotswolds, has been utilised by the US military to launch attacks. They also note that aircraft based there have been observed conducting frequent training manoeuvres.

The protest is scheduled from 1pm to 3pm, during which Gloucestershire Police will increase their presence in the vicinity.
In preparation for the event, Gloucestershire County Council will implement road closures in the area, potentially causing disruptions to local traffic. Residents are encouraged to consult the council’s website for up-to-date information on affected routes.
Gloucestershire Police issued a statement emphasising their commitment to facilitating lawful and peaceful protests while balancing the rights of the wider community:
“We fully respect the fundamental democratic right to protest and have a longstanding history of supporting peaceful demonstrations. However, we must also ensure that the rights of others to go about their personal and professional lives without disruption are protected. Any unlawful actions will be addressed appropriately.”
Officers have been engaging with protest organisers as well as various local and national partners to ensure a safe event. This cooperation will continue throughout and after the demonstration.
Members of the public with pertinent information are encouraged to contact police by calling 101.
