Police Operation Seizes Drugs in Gloucester

A recent police operation in Gloucester city center resulted in the arrests of two individuals and the seizure of class A drugs and other illicit substances. The operation, known as Operation Comet, saw increased police presence on the docks on Saturday night in an effort to combat late-night criminal activity in the city.

Officers from the Gloucestershire Police confiscated cannabis, class A drugs, and nitrous oxide canisters, in addition to apprehending a suspect vehicle believed to be involved in criminal activities. A 29-year-old man from Gloucester was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class B drug and has been released pending investigation.

A second individual was also apprehended on suspicion of driving while over the legal alcohol limit. Law enforcement also issued fines for driving while using a mobile phone and handed out three community resolutions for possession of cannabis.

Twelve vehicles and 14 individuals were halted as part of Operation Comet, which aims to address offenses occurring during late-night social activities. The operation seeks to prevent youth crime, anti-social behavior, violence against women and girls, and the use and sale of drugs in the city’s nighttime economy.

Police officers are collaborating with various organizations, including Night Angels, Street Pastors, Night Safe officers, street medics, and licensed premises, as part of this effort. Sergeant Oliver Padfield, of the Neighbourhood Policing Team, mentioned that the operation provided an opportunity for positive engagement with the public during one of the busiest times of the week.

He stated, “Our officers had a significant amount of positive engagement from the public and door staff on Saturday night. As a result of our presence, we have been able to strengthen our relationships with those involved in the night-time economy.”

“Our goal was to deter individuals with criminal intent from entering Gloucester, and I believe that our presence this weekend has achieved just that. People were glad to see us, and we believe our presence provided strong reassurance to everyone in Gloucester.”
