A police officer sustained a broken leg and an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury after being hit by an e-scooter in Cheltenham on the evening of Friday, 28 August.
The incident occurred shortly after Gloucestershire Police received reports that three males wearing face coverings and carrying torches had entered a building in the town. Officers were dispatched to investigate the possible break-in.
At approximately 10:40 pm, while attending the scene, one of the officers was involved in a collision with an e-scooter operated by a teenage boy. The e-scooter was part of a council-run scheme.

The injured officer was promptly treated by paramedics and transported to hospital. He has since been discharged but will require further medical treatment for his injuries.
A teenage boy from Cheltenham was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving. He has been released on police bail pending ongoing enquiries.
Police have confirmed that the teenager arrested is not currently considered a suspect in the reported break-in related to the officers’ initial call-out.
A spokesperson for Gloucestershire Police stated: “On the evening of 28 August, officers responded to reports of three males with face coverings and torches entering a building in Cheltenham. During their attendance, one officer was involved in a collision with a council scheme e-scooter ridden by a teenage boy. The officer suffered a broken leg and an ACL injury and was taken to hospital. He has since been discharged but will need further treatment. The teenage boy arrested is currently on bail as enquiries continue and is not a suspect in the reported break-in.”
