Police Issue Warning as Massive Steel Wings Transported Through Brockworth on M5

An abnormal load is set to travel through Gloucestershire today after plans were disrupted earlier this week by a vehicle breakdown.

Gloucestershire Police will be escorting two substantial steel wings, each weighing 60 tonnes, along their route from the M5 northbound at Junction 11A. The journey will continue via the B4641, down Delta Way, and onto Hurricane Road, concluding at Golf Club Lane in Brockworth.

Measuring 17 metres in length and 4.85 metres in width, the loads are scheduled to begin moving at approximately 11am. Originally, this transport was planned for Tuesday, 22 September, but was postponed after one of the vehicles involved broke down.

Authorities are advising motorists to avoid the route during the transport times or to allow extra travel time due to possible traffic disruptions. Gloucestershire Police emphasised that while they aim to minimise inconvenience, the size and scale of the load necessitate these precautions.

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire Police stated: “Police will be escorting two abnormal loads through Gloucestershire tomorrow morning (Thursday 24 September). At around 11am, steel wings will be exiting the M5 north at Junction 11A before travelling along the B4641, down Delta Way, and onto Hurricane Road, finally reaching Golf Club Lane in Brockworth. We advise motorists to avoid the route at these times or allow additional journey time. These loads were originally scheduled for Tuesday but were postponed due to a vehicle breakdown.”
