Police Cars Damaged in Six-Vehicle M5 Crash

On the evening of Sunday, March 1, a six-vehicle collision on the M5 left two police cars damaged and caused significant disruption on the motorway. The crash occurred between junction 13 near Stroud and junction 14 at Thornbury and Falfield, prompting authorities to close the motorway in both directions.

Emergency services, including Gloucestershire Police and National Highways Traffic Officers, responded promptly to manage the scene and assist with traffic control. Diversions were set up to help motorists navigate around the closure while the recovery and clearance operations were underway.

Gloucestershire Constabulary confirmed that two of the vehicles involved belonged to Avon and Somerset police. Fortunately, there were no reports of serious injuries from the incident.

According to Avon and Somerset Constabulary, the police vehicles were responding to an emergency call to locate a suspect vehicle when they collided with a stationary car positioned in a live lane following an earlier single-vehicle accident. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash.

After several hours, debris was cleared, and the motorway reopened, allowing traffic to resume its normal flow. Authorities continue to review the incident as inquiries progress.
