Lidl has announced plans to open a new store at an industrial site off Alexandra Way, Tewkesbury, close to junction 9 of the M5. The supermarket chain aims to transform the former Moog premises into a modern discount food store, with a multi-million pound investment expected to create up to 40 new jobs.
The proposed store will offer Lidl’s signature features, including their award-winning in-store bakery and the popular Middle of Lidl section. Customers will benefit from facilities like toilets with baby-changing areas, ensuring a convenient shopping experience for families.
Sustainability is a key focus, as the store will be powered by solar panels on its roof. Ample parking will be available, with 117 spaces including designated accessible and parent-and-child bays, bicycle racks, and electric vehicle charging points.

The location places the new Lidl near the soon-to-open Cotswold Designer Outlet, due this July, providing a complementary shopping destination for locals and visitors alike.
Glen Stidever, Regional Head of Property at Lidl GB, expressed enthusiasm about the project: “We’re excited to bring Lidl’s unique offering to Tewkesbury and Ashchurch. This store will boost the local economy, expand shopping choices, and save residents trips to Cheltenham or Bishops Cleeve for affordable, high-quality products. We encourage everyone to share their views as we prepare our planning application.”
Residents can provide their feedback via a Freepost form being distributed locally, online at tewkesbury.newsite.lidl.co.uk, or by phone at 0800 089 0361.
