Plans Unveiled for 21 New Zero Carbon Homes on Kidnappers Lane, Cheltenham

A 1.74-hectare parcel of land off Kidnappers Lane in Leckhampton, Cheltenham—formerly a garden nursery and now overgrown with bramble and willow scrub—is proposed to be transformed into a residential development featuring 21 new homes. The site, previously used as a paddock and grass field, is ideally situated near High School Leckhampton and the ongoing 350-home Greenway Chase project off the A46 Shurdington Road.

Newland Homes Ltd has submitted a planning application to Cheltenham Borough Council seeking approval for the erection of 21 net zero carbon dwellings, including eight affordable homes. The development will incorporate associated infrastructure, open spaces, and landscaping, with access from Kidnappers Lane.

The proposed residences will feature a diverse architectural style with a mix of detached, semi-detached, and terraced homes ranging from one to five bedrooms. The design includes varied roof heights—from single-storey bungalows to 2.5-storey homes—to add visual interest and complement the surrounding area.

Importantly, the development aims to address Cheltenham’s pressing housing needs at a time when the council is unable to demonstrate a five-year housing land supply. The application highlights key benefits such as the provision of 40% affordable housing, alignment with sustainability targets through net zero carbon homes, and economic advantages tied to construction and community growth.

The site benefits from good transport links, including frequent bus services, and proximity to local schools and amenities, enhancing its appeal for future residents.

For those interested, the full planning application (reference number 25/01073/FUL) is available for public viewing on the Cheltenham Borough Council planning portal.
