Plans to Transfer Schools and College Approved, Sparking Hope for Vital Revamp

The announcement of plans to transfer management of two schools and a technical college has been widely welcomed, igniting hopes for a government-backed revamp of Forest High School in Cinderford.

The South Gloucestershire and Stroud Academy Trust has confirmed it is moving forward with plans to transfer Forest High School and Berkeley Green University Technical College to Greenshaw Learning Trust (GLT). These changes are intended to benefit both pupils and staff by strengthening support and collaboration.

In parallel, Pegasus School in Patchway, Bristol, is set to join the Enable Trust. The Trust emphasized that Forest High School is already on an improvement trajectory, working closely with GLT staff to enhance educational outcomes. Berkeley Green UTC, known for its strong technical programs, is expected to flourish further within Greenshaw’s network of schools.

These transfers, pending due diligence and Department for Education approval, are slated to take effect by early 2027.

Local councillor Ray Donaghue, representing Cinderford, expressed optimism about the plans: “It’s really good news to see real progress on changing academy providers and securing government funding for a new building. The community has been let down for too long.”

Donaghue highlighted the urgent need for investment, remarking that Forest High School’s facilities are among the most in need of rebuilding in the country. “Prioritizing this process above other interests is crucial to ensure our pupils finally get the secondary school they deserve,” he stated.

Supporting these efforts, Forest of Dean MP Matt Bishop recently launched a petition calling for immediate government approval of funding for a new Forest High School building. The campaign has already gained over 830 signatures from local residents eager for change.
