An ambitious proposal has been submitted to Cotswold District Council to develop up to 39 high-quality holiday lodges around Lake 62 at the Cotswold Lakes, aiming to open up a previously private area to the public.
Located within the Cotswold Water Park, the development would position lodges mainly along the southern and eastern shores of Lake 62. Currently, this lake is private and primarily accessible only during occasional public events. The eastern lakeside now features shipping containers and informal parking areas, while the surrounding land includes former excavation sites covered in scrub and hedgerows, with a narrow footpath encircling the lake.
The proposed development promises to transform this landscape by granting access to both local residents and future lodge occupants—creating a more inclusive space while preserving the privacy of the northern and western lake areas.

To improve connectivity, plans include a new vehicular entrance from Spine Road West and the extension of an existing cycle track along B4696. This enhanced route will encourage sustainable travel, linking to the National Cycle Network Route 45. Additional infrastructure will feature community facilities and a cycle hire service, further enriching the area’s amenities.
Lake 62 itself spans approximately 12.8 hectares and was formed from past mineral extraction activities. Owned by Quinque Stella Holdings Ltd, it has hosted water-skiing, fishing, triathlon training, and open water swimming for over two decades. Presently, the lake supports private fishing, camping, and various seasonal events such as triathlon competitions and bonfires.
Opening the site to the public aims to foster ecologically focused recreational activities that promote environmental awareness and mental well-being. The Cotswold Lakes area already attracts around one million visitors annually from across the UK and beyond, and this initiative is poised to enhance its appeal even further.
