Paul Hodgkinson, a prominent figure in Gloucestershire local government, has been selected once again as the Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for the North Cotswolds constituency. Serving as a cabinet member at Shire Hall with responsibilities spanning public health, communities, and fire services, Hodgkinson brings extensive regional experience to his campaign.
A seasoned representative, Hodgkinson has served as a councillor for Bourton-on-the-Water and Northleach for 12 years and also represents the Chedworth and Churn Valley area on the Cotswold District Council. In Cirencester, he holds the cabinet portfolio for health, culture, and visitor experience, cementing his commitment to local issues.
Reflecting on his candidacy, Hodgkinson said, “Having lived here for 35 years, I understand the challenges our community faces because I live them too. We can improve the NHS, tackle the cost-of-living crisis, enhance public services, and protect our stunning environment. My priority is delivering results for local people, not playing Westminster political games.”

Hodgkinson emphasizes his position as the “clear challenger” in the race and believes he is uniquely placed to defeat Reform UK in the upcoming election. In the previous 2024 general election, Conservative MP Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown secured the seat with 17,426 votes, while Hodgkinson finished second with 14,069 votes. Labour followed with 8,593 votes, while Reform UK, the Green Party, and an Independent candidate garnered 6,502, 3,191, and 448 votes respectively.
The North Cotswolds constituency covers parts of the districts of Cotswold, Stroud, and Tewkesbury borough. With the next general election expected by August 15, 2029 at the latest, Hodgkinson is focused on mobilizing support to unseat the incumbent and bring fresh leadership to the area.
