Pittville School in Cheltenham is set to release land for the construction of 58 new homes, partnering with Barnwood-based housebuilder Newland Homes. This development will generate crucial funding for the school’s new sports facilities while addressing the growing demand for sustainable housing.
The school secured outline planning permission in 2016 to build 58 homes alongside a new sports complex on one of its surplus playing fields. With the field no longer required for school use, the project received full approval, paving the way for construction.
The planned development will finance the creation of a modern sports hall, dance and fitness studios, an all-weather 3G pitch, and a tennis court, greatly enhancing the school’s sports infrastructure. Newland Homes is also preparing to submit an updated planning application this spring for 58 zero carbon homes, emphasizing sustainability in the project.

Richard Gilpin, Headteacher of Pittville School, said, “We’re thrilled to have partnered with Newland Homes to provide much-needed sports facilities for our students. This self-funded initiative enables us to build a new sports hall and all-weather pitch, with construction starting in summer 2025 and completion aimed for the September 2026 academic year.”
Simon Richardson, Associate Land Director at Newland Homes, added, “Having been founded in Cheltenham over 30 years ago, we’re proud to contribute to a development that benefits the local community. Our commitment to building high-quality, zero carbon homes aligns perfectly with supporting Pittville School’s goal of delivering outstanding sports and educational facilities.”
