A key route through the Cotswolds village of Willersey will close for nine days starting Tuesday, May 26, prompting a diversion that spans more than 10 miles.
The B4632 Broadway Road and Main Street in Willersey will be closed daily from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. until Friday, June 5, with no closures over the weekend. These closures facilitate essential carriageway resurfacing over a stretch of less than two miles.
Despite the short work zone, drivers will face an extended diversion taking them over 11 miles around the closed section. The alternative route directs traffic along the A44 Pitchers Hill through Wickhamford, then along the A46 to Aldington before turning through Bretforton and following the B3045 and B4632 past Weston Subedge.

Access through Willersey will be limited during this period. Notably, Campden Lane connecting Broadway Road and Buckle Street will also be shut, and through traffic will be prohibited from passing.
Residents and visitors who normally use these roads are advised to plan alternative routes or adjust travel times accordingly. While vehicular access is restricted, pedestrian access to properties within the closed area will remain open, with safe passage ensured.
Gloucestershire County Council’s Highways team explained in a letter to residents that the extended closure area is necessary due to the nature of resurfacing work, which involves machinery and material movement beyond the immediate repair site. They acknowledged the inconvenience but emphasized safety and efficiency to minimize disruption.
For real-time updates on the road closure, residents can visit the Gloucestershire County Council website or follow Gloucestershire Roads on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter).
