A key route through the Cotswolds village of Willersey will be closed for nine days, causing drivers to navigate an extensive diversion exceeding 10 miles. The closures affect the B4632 Broadway Road and Main Street, taking effect between 9:30 am and 3:30 pm from Tuesday, May 26, until Friday, June 5, excluding weekends.
Though the actual roadworks cover less than two miles of carriageway, resurfacing efforts necessitate a lengthy detour. The designated alternative route transports drivers via the A44 at Pitchers Hill, through Wickhamford, along the A46 to Aldington, then circles back via Bretforton, continuing on the B3045 and B4632 past Weston Subedge before reaching Willersey.
Traffic access within Willersey will be limited; notably, Campden Lane between Broadway Road and Buckle Street remains closed and is excluded from the diversion. Drivers who typically pass through this area during working hours are advised to plan alternative routes accordingly, as through traffic will not be permitted.

Pedestrians retain access to properties within the closure zone and may pass through when it is deemed safe by crews.
In correspondence with residents, Gloucestershire County Council’s Highways team explained the closure under Sections 14, 15 & 16 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, citing safety concerns for both the public and workers during the resurfacing project. They emphasized that the closure area must exceed the resurfacing zone to allow safe maneuvering of machinery and materials.
The team acknowledged the inconvenience but stressed the importance of completing the work swiftly and at a time that minimizes disruption.
