Out-muscled, Out-planned, Out-played: Bristol Bears Pulverize Gloucester with 53-12 Rout

In a relentless display of power and precision, Bristol Bears overwhelmed Gloucester Rugby 53-12 at Ashton Gate, extending Gloucester’s struggles and keeping their own playoff hopes alive in the 2025/26 Gallagher Premiership.

Despite motivational efforts from Gloucester’s head coach George Skivington, and the presence of new technical director Chris Boyd witnessing his side’s struggles firsthand, the Cherry and Whites were comprehensively outmatched. Bristol’s clinical attack produced seven tries from Kieran Marmion, Kalaveti Ravouvou (two tries), Fitz Harding, Tom Jordan, Gabriel Oghre, plus a penalty try, showcasing their superiority across all facets of the game.

Gloucester managed just two tries—courtesy of George Barton and Deian Gwynne—and endured three yellow cards for Seb Blake, Charlie Atkinson, and Josiah Edwards-Giraud, which further hampered their efforts. The Bears surged to a 7-0 lead inside four minutes with Marmion’s sniping try. Gloucester’s resilience was short-lived as Bristol exploited overlaps and breakdown dominance to pull away.

The early sin bin for Blake, following a clash with Ellis Genge, set the tone for Gloucester’s night. Although Barton capitalized on a charge down to get Gloucester on the board, Bristol’s relentless pace and tactical execution quickly restored their lead. Ravouvou’s twin tries exploited defensive gaps, while Harding’s well-timed effort and a penalty try after a deliberate knock-on sealed Gloucester’s fate before half-time.

Tensions flared briefly at halftime with a heated confrontation between Ellis Genge and Gloucester’s Afo Fasogbon, emblematic of Gloucester’s frustrations.

The second half saw Bristol maintain their supremacy. A key interception by Tom Jordan led to another Bristol try and extended the scoreline relentlessly. Harding’s leadership was evident in orchestrating a maul that enabled Oghre’s score, further cementing the Bears’ dominance.

Despite losing replacement George Taylor to a sin bin, Bristol maintained control, opting for penalty kicks late in the game to bring their tally to 53 points. Gloucester now face a critical reassessment, especially with a tough encounter against Exeter Chiefs looming at Kingsholm.

The match results underscore Bristol’s effective game plan and physical dominance, while highlighting the challenges Gloucester must overcome to regain competitiveness in the Premiership.
