Our Yorkshire Farm’s Amanda Owen Shares Heartbreaking Update Following Family Pet’s Illness

Amanda Owen, known as the Yorkshire Shepherdess from the popular Channel 5 series Our Yorkshire Farm, has shared an emotional update about the health of her family’s cherished terrier, Sprout. This news comes just months after the family suffered the heartbreaking loss of their other dog, Chalky.

On Sunday, January 18, Amanda took to Instagram to reveal that Sprout had been acting unusually and was showing signs of distress. Sharing photos of Sprout receiving veterinary care, Amanda explained that the terrier’s behavior had become increasingly strange and concerning.

“Well, here’s an update I never thought I’d be giving,” Amanda wrote. “Sprout, our lovely (often overlooked) terrier, has been behaving quite strangely recently. She became unwell and ended up at the vet because she was acting very strangely — unsettled, with no appetite for food or life, refusing to even come inside the house.”

Amanda described how Sprout had been wandering off, visiting neighbors briefly, appearing listless and dull-eyed — clearly not herself after the loss of her closest animal companion. After weeks of concern and uncertainty, Amanda and her family realized that Sprout was grieving the death of Chalky, who had passed away in October.

“She was grieving and searching for Chalky, her best friend, her partner in crime, and at times her full of foe,” Amanda revealed. While there were medications available that could help Sprout feel better, the family decided against medicating the terrier, opting instead to let time and love be the cure.

Amanda’s fans quickly flooded the post with supportive messages, sharing their sympathy and suggestions for helping Sprout heal. Many recognized the profound impact grief can have, even on animals.

One follower commented, “100% true. Grief can totally change a dog. Enjoy finding a new chum for her!” Another added, “Yes, she wants a friend.” A third wrote, “Poor thing. Grief affects everyone. She needs another playmate. Good luck with her. Sending much love.”

Amanda Owen continues to document life on the farm, and this heartfelt update offers a glimpse into the emotional challenges faced by both humans and animals in their close-knit family.
