Amanda Owen, star of the popular show Our Yorkshire Farm, experienced a significant setback on Tuesday, May 13, when a fierce storm struck Ravenseat Farm, causing considerable damage to the ongoing farmhouse restoration project.
The family’s spin-off series, Our Farm Next Door, showcases Amanda, her former husband Clive, and their nine children as they breathe new life into a 200-year-old farmhouse nestled in the Yorkshire Dales. Currently airing its second series, the show follows the family’s efforts to renovate Anty John’s farmhouse.
In the latest episode, viewers enjoyed heartwarming scenes of goats receiving festive coats and the family gathering around the home’s first Christmas fire in years. However, the celebrations were overshadowed by the impact of Storm Bert.

Builder Richard shared insights into the damage: “The house’s exterior was mostly complete, and many interior beams and joists were in place. But the storm severely damaged the electrics and flooring.” Water had flooded through the electrical conduit, with around two inches of water found inside the building.
He explained the problem further: “Water from the top of the field runs down the pipe containing the electric cables and is flooding into the building. We’ll need to install drainage and redirect this water away from the house to prevent further damage.”
Richard also reflected on the challenges they faced due to the timing of the work: “It feels like we’re working on a summer job during winter; even the roof was done in cold weather. Maybe that’s why we’re encountering these issues.”
Amid the difficulties, Amanda shared a cheerful update about Tony, the family’s beloved miniature pony who joined them in 2022. Amanda described Tony as a small but endearing character much loved by the children. “Tony is just the size of a big dog, yet he gets along well with the larger horses,” she said. “The kids adore him; he’s practically a family member.”
Fans of the show were delighted to hear about Tony’s progress, flooding social media with praise. One viewer called him “Much loved Tony the Pony by all of us, especially The Owen Family,” while another labeled him “an absolute legend!”
Our Farm Next Door continues to capture the hearts of viewers with its genuine portrayal of rural family life, even when faced with unexpected challenges.
