Olly Alexander is taking a step back from the fast-paced world of music to focus more on acting and personal stability. The 34-year-old singer and actor revealed that the relentless intensity of the music business has become overwhelming.
Speaking to the BBC, Olly shared, “With music, there’s an intensity to the way I’ve been working—putting albums out, promoting, and touring. I definitely want to take the foot off the gas in terms of that intensity.”
Earlier this year, Olly parted ways with his record label, signaling a new chapter. He is currently preparing to star in the West End production of The Importance of Being Earnest, embracing the steadiness that theater affords.

“I spent many years constantly moving around, touring, which was amazing and fun,” Olly said. “But now, I truly appreciate staying put—having a home in London with my partner and cats, and simply walking to the theatre each night. That sounds like the most wonderful existence.”
Olly has also drawn wisdom from some notable music legends. He previously opened up about seeking advice from Sir Elton John and Kylie Minogue on managing fame and its emotional toll.
“Working with Elton and Kylie—two iconic legends—they shared their struggles of feeling uncertain and sometimes battling darkness,” he told the Evening Standard. “Elton spoke candidly about his depression and the hard times. Hearing that was profound.”
For Olly, their openness was both comforting and enlightening. “I’m someone who constantly questions my purpose, wondering why I’m here and what I’m doing. But to hear that from people I deeply respect—that it’s normal and you just get through it—was invaluable advice.”
As he balances his music legacy with a growing acting career, Olly Alexander is charting a course toward greater personal fulfillment and creative well-being.
