The Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester is considering demolishing the old science labs on its campus to make way for a new outdoor social space. These labs, dating back to the late 1930s, are deemed to be in poor condition, requiring extensive refurbishment that is considered unfeasible.
In a proposed shift of the campus’s master plan, the university aims to redevelop the released land into a “village green” and plaza, serving as a central area and social hub for students. This change aligns with the institution’s long-term vision for aesthetic enhancements and creating open views linking key student facilities.
While the demolition plans are still under consultation, with the process expected to conclude by May 2, the university’s intent is to repurpose the space to better serve its agricultural student community. The proposal includes retaining only the electrical switch room for necessary accommodation, with the rest of the building set to be demolished.
