“Nuisance” Cheltenham Flat Declared No-Go Zone as Authorities Enforce Closure Order

Cheltenham authorities have enforced a closure order on a flat in Monks Croft, officially shutting down the property to prevent any unauthorized access. The order was granted by Cheltenham Magistrates' Court after determining that the flat either was, or had the potential to become, a serious nuisance to nearby residents.

This full closure order will remain in effect for three months, set to expire on August 11, 2026. However, it can be extended by an additional three months, allowing for a total closure period of six months if necessary.

A formal notice from Cheltenham Borough Council has been affixed to the front door of the flat, informing the public that the closure order is legally enforceable. The order permits entry only to emergency services personnel, council representatives, or individuals officially working on behalf of the council.

Any other person who enters the property risks violating the closure order, which falls under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act. Such breaches may result in a jail sentence or monetary fines.

This closure comes shortly after a police response involving armed officers who arrived following reports of a man wielding a machete near the flats. While authorities have not confirmed a direct link between the police intervention and the closure order, the move signals a serious effort to address community safety concerns.
