Jamie Pockett, 44, of Millbrook Street in Cheltenham, has been sentenced to 36 weeks in jail after pleading guilty to multiple shoplifting offences totaling nearly 30 incidents. The sentencing took place at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court on Friday, July 11.
Between February 11 and March 8, Pockett committed four thefts at a Winchcombe store, stealing alcohol and joints of meat valued at approximately £1,600. In addition to these offences, he admitted to 25 other shoplifting incidents, which were also considered during sentencing.
Alongside his custodial sentence, Pockett was ordered to pay a £187 surcharge. Upon his arrest on July 10, he was issued an anti-social behaviour order. Gloucestershire Police have further applied for a Criminal Behaviour Order against him, with a hearing scheduled for August 20 at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court.

Sergeant Emma Francis of the Tewkesbury Neighbourhood Policing Team emphasized the wider impact of such offences, stating, “Shoplifting is not a victimless crime. Local businesses suffer significant harm, and shop workers often face distressing situations. This sentence reflects the seriousness of Pockett’s actions, and we remain committed to supporting retailers and holding offenders accountable.”
