Police have confirmed that no arrests were made during a peaceful protest held near RAF Fairford on Saturday. Approximately 200 members of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) gathered from midday to 3pm to oppose the use of the base by US bombers flying missions to Iran amid the ongoing conflict.
In response to the demonstration, Gloucestershire Police increased their presence in the area and implemented road closures affecting dozens of routes throughout the day. Assistant Chief Constable Arman Mathieson expressed gratitude to Fairford residents for their support and cooperation during the event.
“We deployed officers gradually and proportionately, balancing the rights of protesters with those of the wider community while minimizing disruption,” Mathieson said. He emphasized that the police’s primary role was to maintain safety and uphold individual rights without bias.
