Dr Raj Arora, an NHS GP, health educator, and TV doctor, has delivered a powerful message to women whose health concerns are often overlooked. Highlighting a common issue in women’s healthcare, Dr Arora emphasizes the urgent need to stop normalizing severe pain, extreme fatigue, and disruptive hormone symptoms as just “part of being a woman.”
In a recent TikTok video, she expressed: “So many women are told, ‘that’s just part of being a woman.’ But severe pain, extreme fatigue, and hormone-related symptoms that take over your life should never be brushed off as normal. Women’s health concerns deserve respect, thorough investigation, and proper care. We must stop accepting suffering as normal and start demanding better healthcare.”
To empower women, Dr Arora urges individuals to speak up and persist when their symptoms are dismissed or ignored. For those unsure how to raise these concerns, the NHS’s Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) offers confidential advice and support. PALS acts as a vital resource, assisting patients, families, and carers by providing information and a channel for voicing complaints or concerns about NHS services.

The NHS encourages patients dissatisfied with their care to raise complaints with the relevant service provider, such as a GP or hospital, or to contact their local Integrated Care Board (ICB). This can include issues relating to primary care services like dentistry, opticians, pharmacy, or secondary care services like hospitals and mental health services.
By highlighting these resources and promoting advocacy, Dr Arora hopes to shift attitudes and improve the quality of care women receive, ensuring no one is dismissed or left suffering in silence.
