For many, meal prepping is the key to maintaining a healthy diet during hectic workweeks. However, after long days, cooking in the evenings can sometimes feel overwhelming or simply not feasible. That’s why having a convenient, nutritious backup option can be a real lifesaver.
Dr Imogen Arden-Jones, an NHS doctor who shares health tips on TikTok as @Imydoesmed, recently revealed her go-to lunchtime solution from Lidl. In a video shared with her 2.8k followers, she enthusiastically recommended a £1.29 meal from Lidl’s ‘Taste of High Protein’ range — a perfect choice for busy days when preparing food isn’t possible.
Addressing her audience, Dr Arden-Jones asked, “Too lazy to meal prep?” and quickly answered, “Try these.” She showcased two popular pouches: BBQ Beans and Vegan Chilli Non Carne, both packed with protein and flavour.

She explained: “Much more budget and macro-friendly than the hospital canteen! @Lidl GB high protein pouches, £1.29. I carry a bunch of these around for days when I can’t be bothered to prep lunch (or I forget).”
The recommendation resonated with viewers. When one follower asked, “Do they actually taste good?” Dr Arden-Jones responded enthusiastically, “Yass I love them!” Another user mentioned their favourite variety: the French lentil pouch, which they enjoy with rice or toast. Dr Arden-Jones replied, “Ooo that’s next on my list, I have some in my cupboard.”
Although these specific pouches aren’t listed on Lidl’s website, shoppers may find them in-store. Lidl also offers other high-protein ready meals, such as Chef Select High Protein Spaghetti Bolognese, BBQ Chicken with Quinoa, and Chicken Tikka Masala. Additionally, the Milbona range includes high-protein Greek-style yoghurt and vanilla pudding options, though prices for these are not always displayed online.
The NHS emphasises the importance of a balanced diet rich in protein — essential for growth and repair — while advising moderation in saturated fat, sugar, and salt intake. It also recommends batch cooking larger portions to save time and money, making nutritious eating achievable even on demanding days.
With affordable, protein-packed options like Lidl’s pouches, staying well-nourished on a busy schedule has never been easier.
