Newcastle United’s manager, Eddie Howe, will be sidelined for the team’s upcoming matches due to being hospitalized with pneumonia. Howe expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support from fans and extended appreciation to the NHS and hospital staff caring for him.
The 47-year-old will be absent from the matches against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa, following his absence during the team’s recent 4-1 victory over Manchester United. Pneumonia, an inflammation of the lungs commonly caused by an infection, has led to Howe’s hospitalization.
Recognizable symptoms of pneumonia include a sudden or gradual onset of coughing with yellow or green mucus, shortness of breath, high temperature, chest pain, body aches, fatigue, loss of appetite, wheezing during breathing, and confusion. The NHS advises seeking medical attention if experiencing a persistent cough lasting three weeks or longer, coughing up blood, chest pain, or breathlessness.

Typically, pneumonia is treated with antibiotics, with recovery expected within two to four weeks. However, more severe cases, often seen in young children or individuals above 65 years old, may necessitate hospital treatment. Hospitalized patients with pneumonia are administered fluids and antibiotics for the infection, and oxygen support may also be provided to aid breathing.
