Looking ahead to late May, the garden will be further enhanced with bursts of cosmos, zinnia, verbena, and tithonia—flowers grown from seed in the potting shed since March. These additions promise to enrich the garden’s colourful palette even more.

Senior Visitor Experience Officer Libby Woolfrey expresses her love for the east garden in May: “You can sit down in the sunshine and see the amazing flowers in bloom and appreciate all the beauty in nature.”

Late spring at Newark Park is the perfect time to explore the garden’s blossoming flowers and the lively pollinators they attract, such as peacock butterflies, highlighting the estate’s natural vibrancy.

Steeped in history, Newark Park dates back to the 16th century when it served as a Tudor hunting lodge. It later transformed into an elegant Georgian residence for the Clutterbuck family, a heritage visible in its distinctive architecture today.

In the mid-20th century, Newark Park was entrusted to the National Trust. Since then, it has undergone vital restoration efforts, preserving both the house and gardens for future generations to enjoy.
