New Starbucks Drive-Thru Nears Completion Amid Major Gloucester RAF Base Redevelopment

A new Starbucks drive-thru in Kingsway, Gloucester, has reached practical completion, marking a significant milestone within the wider redevelopment of a former RAF base. This 1,744 square foot coffee shop, located at the entrance to Kingsway on Naas Lane, will soon open its doors to serve local residents and visitors.

The Starbucks drive-thru is part of an ambitious masterplan transforming the 340-acre site into a vibrant community. The redevelopment includes 3,300 new homes, a 40-acre employment zone, various retail outlets, community and leisure facilities, sports amenities, and a primary school, aimed at creating a thriving and sustainable living environment.

Developed by Boddington-based property and investment company Robert Hitchins in partnership with contractors EG Carter, the project is the final phase of Kingsway’s commercial centre. Michael Plimmer, senior development manager at Robert Hitchins, highlighted the significance of this addition: “Starbucks joins other prominent brands such as Asda, Lidl, Pure Gym, B&M, MKM, and Greene King, offering exemplary shopping and leisure options to the local community.”

The Magic Bean Company, a Starbucks franchisee, has secured a 20-year lease for the site. The coffee shop is currently undergoing its final interior fit-out and is scheduled to open on March 13. Melissa Allen, central operations manager at The Magic Bean Company, shared her excitement: “We’re delighted to be part of this exciting redevelopment and look forward to serving the busy Quedgeley area, while creating career opportunities for local people.”

EG Carter, the construction contractor working on the site since June 2025, has praised the project’s progress. Thomas Jones, construction director at EG Carter, said: “Reaching practical completion is a proud moment for everyone involved. This collaborative effort with Robert Hitchins Ltd has resulted in a high-quality building that speaks to the future of the Kingsway development.”

Jones added: “The new Starbucks will serve as a key gateway into Kingsway and a valuable asset for the community. We eagerly anticipate the final stages of fit-out and welcoming customers to this vibrant new space.”
