New Multi-Room Nightclub Set to Transform Gloucester’s Nightlife

Gloucester is on the brink of a major nightlife transformation with the upcoming launch of Play Gloucester, a brand-new nightclub promising an experience “the city has never seen before.” Scheduled to open its doors next month at 141 Eastgate Street, the venue has been completely revitalised by Church Farm Hospitality following a substantial £300,000 investment.

The site has a rich history in Gloucester’s nightlife scene, having previously operated under names such as Liquid, Liquid Diva, Atik, and most recently Trilogy before closing in June 2023 and being auctioned for £325,000. Now reborn as Play Gloucester, the club will showcase a multi-room layout and a striking redesign, including cutting-edge sound and lighting systems, immersive lighting effects, VIP raised booths, new bar areas, and unique features like a ball pit.

Play Gloucester’s launch party will take place over two nights, Friday 11 and Saturday 12 September, coinciding with the arrival of new students at the University of Gloucestershire and Hartpury University. The club has been specially designed with these university communities in mind, aiming to be the go-to destination for student celebrations and memorable nights out.

Founder of Church Farm Hospitality, Tom Williams, who brings decades of experience from his background as a DJ and venue manager, emphasised the club’s appeal beyond just students. He stated, “We want Play to be the venue for everyone in Gloucester. This is a significant moment for us and the city. We have invested heavily because we genuinely believe Gloucester deserves world-class nightlife.”

The venue features two distinct rooms: Room One is a high-energy main space dedicated to mainstream chart hits and dancefloor anthems, while Room Two caters to RnB enthusiasts with a deeper, more immersive music experience. Together, they create a dual atmosphere, offering diverse entertainment under one roof.

Williams expressed the company’s long-term commitment to enhancing Gloucester’s nightlife, highlighting the city’s vibrant university communities and local energy. He remarked, “We want Gloucester to be a city where people come to enjoy their entire night out, not leave. Collaboration with other venues is key, because a rising tide lifts all boats.”

Following the launch weekend, Play Gloucester will dive straight into Freshers' Week festivities, supporting one of the most important periods in the club’s calendar with a series of special events designed to warmly welcome new students. Over the academic year, the club plans to host a varied programme including student nights, celebrity DJ appearances, daytime parties, music bingo, themed events, and Young Farmers takeover nights.

Williams concluded: “The launch is just the beginning. We have an incredible line-up and are aiming to deliver the biggest and best start to the academic year Gloucester has ever seen.”

Play Gloucester officially opens on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 September at 141 Eastgate Street. For tickets and further information, visit their official website or follow @playgloucester on Instagram and Facebook.
