A vibrant new dining destination is on its way to Gloucester Quays: Banchina Italian. This independent Italian restaurant will take over the prime spot formerly occupied by TGI Fridays, offering stunning views of the Docks.
While the exact opening date remains unconfirmed, the venue is expected to welcome guests within the next month, targeting a late February or early March debut. Signage is already in place, and the site buzzes with activity as fit-out work progresses.
Banchina Italian brings a fresh, independent charm to Gloucester Quays, joining a roster of popular chains such as Wagamama, Zizzi, Nando’s, and Pizza Express. The restaurant is the second UK venture from the owners behind Cheltenham’s acclaimed Sef Steakhouse, which opened its doors in May 2023. With prior experience running restaurants in Turkey and Kuwait, this new restaurant aims to deliver an authentic Italian experience grounded in genuine hospitality.

The restaurant’s website introduces Banchina Italian as a casual dining spot that “brings the warmth, flavour, and spirit of Italy to the city in a relaxed, quality-focused setting.” Inspired by travel through iconic Italian regions—from the Amalfi Coast and Naples to Lake Como and the Dolomites—the restaurant emphasizes the philosophy that great food and hospitality should feel effortless.
The menu will highlight fresh, premium ingredients featuring classic Italian dishes with a refined yet approachable style. A central open kitchen and Neapolitan pizza oven will create an engaging atmosphere, allowing diners to witness the craftsmanship behind each dish.
Designed to seat around 130 guests, Banchina Italian promises a lively yet comfortable environment paired with a modern Mediterranean aesthetic. Whether for a quick lunch, a leisurely dinner, or gathering with friends and family, it aims to be a go-to destination for lovers of Italian cuisine in Gloucester.
Additionally, Gloucester Food Dock will soon welcome two new eateries: Wagyu & Feather, focusing on premium British Wagyu beef street food, and Mazala Dosa, serving authentic South Indian street food delights like crispy dosa and hot masala. Both are anticipated to open in the coming months, adding to the city’s evolving culinary scene.
