A proposal has been submitted to build up to five new homes on an open agricultural field at the edge of Apperley, a village located between Gloucester and Tewkesbury. The site is framed by mature hedges and trees and lies close to the village hall and First School, making it a convenient location for future residents.
Lockley Homes (Sandpiper TKL) has applied for “permission in principle” to develop the site. While the initial application outlines the intention to build up to five dwellings, detailed aspects such as design, layout, and landscaping will be addressed later during the technical details application stage.
The proposed development neighbors existing residential areas: Apperley Park to the south and further housing to the west along Deerhurst Road. To the north and east, open countryside remains, with site access planned between numbers 45 and 47 Apperley Park, according to a planning statement prepared by AddisonRees Planning Consultancy Ltd.

Documents submitted to Tewkesbury Borough Council emphasize that the development will be low-density and sympathetically designed to blend with the scale and character of the village outskirts. The proposal aims to complement the village’s form without causing undesirable merging with nearby settlements.
Apperley is recognized as a sustainable community. Future residents would benefit from close proximity—just 0.4 miles—to the First School, the village hall, and nearby bus stops. Regular bus services run five times daily from Monday to Saturday, connecting residents to Gloucester and Tewkesbury, all accessible via safe, continuous footpaths.
The applicant highlights several benefits of the development, including increasing local housing supply, supporting village amenities, generating construction jobs, and contributing additional council tax revenue and New Homes Bonus funds.
