New Culinary Delights: Restaurants and Cafés Opening Across Gloucestershire

Gloucestershire continues to expand its vibrant food scene with a variety of new restaurants and cafés opening to cater to diverse tastes. Whether you’re seeking a quick pastry or an adventurous dining experience, the county offers something appealing for every palate.

This month, Gloucester has welcomed Mazala Dosa, a new restaurant specialising in South Indian street food located at the popular Gloucester Food Dock. Offering an authentic dining experience, the venue combines South Indian design elements with the unique Victorian architecture of Gloucester Docks, including exposed brickwork and timber beams. Owner Omer Rahim expressed excitement about introducing rich South Indian flavours and traditions alongside warm hospitality in this distinctive waterside spot. Notably, Mazala Dosa is set apart as Gloucester’s first restaurant to employ an autonomous service robot that greets guests, guides them to their seats, and delivers food from the kitchen.

In Stroud, Salt Bakehouse, a well-loved bakery brand known for its pop-up vans in the area, opened its first permanent location at 28 Slad Road on September 2. Serving coffees, pastries, and other sweet treats from Wednesday to Saturday mornings and early afternoons, the bakery has received an enthusiastic welcome. While initially offering a reduced menu until Christmas, Salt Bakehouse promises an expanding selection as the business establishes itself. The premises are conveniently located within a short walk from the Five Valleys Shopping Centre, which provides ample parking.

Cheltenham’s former deep-dish pizza venue, Japes, on the Promenade, has undergone a transformation, reopening as Taco Nopal, a Mexican taquería serving tacos and mezcal. Founded by Alex and Jovana, the original Japes team, this new establishment was inspired by their travels in the United States where they frequently enjoyed authentic taquerías. Taco Nopal focuses on simple, fresh tortillas filled with genuine Mexican flavours at affordable prices, encouraging everyday taco enjoyment. The restaurant is open daily from midday at 23 Promenade.

Looking ahead, another addition to Gloucester Food Dock is on the way. Casa di Filomena, created by the same team behind Bella Mia Pizza, is expected to open next month next to its sister venue. Promising real home-cooked food, the team is finalising preparations and experimenting with dishes like creamy carbonara and zesty homemade desserts. Patrons are encouraged to watch for this upcoming restaurant launch in October.
