Bromford Housing Association is set to transform a 2.5-acre site near The Crypt School in Gloucester into an affordable housing development, addressing the city’s pressing housing needs. The project will consist of 30 semi-detached homes and maisonettes, split between 19 rental units and 11 shared ownership homes, providing diverse options for local residents.
Gloucester City Council has officially approved Bromford’s plans for the New Dawn View development, marking a significant milestone in expanding affordable housing in the region. Bromford acquired the site from Gloucestershire County Council in 2024, as part of its ambitious in-house construction programme aimed at delivering quality, sustainable homes across the county.
Corrina Johnson, Bromford’s Project Manager, expressed enthusiasm about the approval, stating, “We are excited to move forward with this project. The demand for affordable housing in Gloucester remains high, and this development will offer vital, well-designed homes that positively impact the community. We’ve collaborated closely with the City Council to ensure the homes meet the highest standards in design and sustainability. We aim to start construction in early 2026.”

SF Planning, the consulting firm involved since the site’s allocation for residential development, played a key role in navigating the planning process. Mark Godson, Director at SF Planning, commented, “Securing approval for this site is a crucial step for affordable housing in Gloucester. The multi-phase process was comprehensive, and we’re proud to help bring this important development to fruition.”
Councillor Luke Shervey, Gloucester City Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, highlighted the project’s significance: “Delivering a fully affordable housing scheme in Gloucester is a tremendous achievement. This development will provide much-needed homes for vulnerable residents, hardworking families, and those who live and work in our city. Partnering with Bromford, a trusted housing provider, ensures high-quality homes that meet community needs.”
As the largest housing association in Gloucestershire, Bromford already has ongoing projects across Gloucester, Winchcombe, and Stroud. This latest development by Bromford Flagship, one of the largest housebuilding associations in the country, reinforces its commitment to tackling the housing crisis with sustainable, affordable solutions.
