When trying to sell our house, my partner and I hoped that a small change by our neighbour might help make our property more appealing to potential buyers. Specifically, we asked if they could move a large flag displayed outside their home, as it drew attention and some prospective buyers mentioned it distracted them from our property’s curb appeal.
We thought this was a reasonable request — just a minor adjustment that could benefit both parties. Unfortunately, our neighbour refused outright, insisting they had every right to display their flag as they pleased and that they wouldn’t alter anything for the sake of our sale.
This situation has divided opinions among friends and online communities. Some people say homeowners shouldn’t expect neighbours to change their own property for someone else’s benefit. Others sympathize with our position, believing that neighbours should be more cooperative, especially in close-knit communities.
