My Neighbour Is Parking on My Driveway—But Everyone Thinks I’m in the Wrong

A frustrated homeowner has spoken out after their neighbour began parking on their driveway without permission—and then turned the entire neighbourhood against them when they challenged it.

The homeowner, who regularly cares for their mother suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, returned home from a two-week work trip to find an unfamiliar car parked where they usually leave their vehicle. Initially, they thought family or friends might have dropped by. However, their father revealed a surprising explanation: their mother, confused by her illness, had apparently given the neighbour permission.

Wanting to clear things up, the homeowner approached the neighbours with a peace offering—a box of chocolates—and explained the situation. Instead of a warm reception, they encountered hostility. One woman barely opened the door and shouted, “We’re not interested!” before shutting it again.

Days later, the homeowner managed to calmly speak with the male neighbour, explaining that due to their mother’s condition she couldn’t authorize parking rights and politely asked that the car no longer be left there. For a brief period, the issue seemed resolved.

However, once the homeowner went back to work, the car reappeared in the driveway. After several failed attempts to communicate with the neighbours, the homeowner contacted the police.

When officers arrived, the neighbours initially refused to cooperate. Eventually, the husband claimed there was a “verbal contract” with the homeowner’s mother permitting them to park there. The police officer was unconvinced and made it clear the vehicle had to be moved or towed.

The situation grew more bizarre when the neighbour objected, saying moving the car would leave no room for a new vehicle they had recently acquired. Faced with the threat of towing, the neighbour finally moved the car.

The officer warned that any future parking on the driveway could be considered trespassing, resulting in immediate removal of the vehicle.

Despite efforts to explain the misunderstanding to other neighbours, the homeowner says the community has sided with the neighbour, leaving them unfairly branded as the “bad guy.”
