‘My Daughter Had a Brain Tumour: The Growing Gap Between Her and Her Friends’

When my daughter was diagnosed with a brain tumour, our lives changed overnight. The months of treatment were grueling, but nothing quite prepared us for the challenges that came once she returned to school. Suddenly, the gap between her and her friends seemed to widen with every passing day.

Physically, she still struggled with fatigue and cognitive issues, making it difficult to keep up with her classmates. Socially, the connections she once had appeared distant, as if a wall had formed between her experiences and those of her peers. The familiar laughter and shared activities now felt out of reach.

Getting back to school after such a life-altering event has been one of the hardest things our family has had to endure. While she is determined and resilient, we continually grapple with how to support her through this transition, ensuring she doesn’t feel isolated or left behind.

The emotional toll is immense, but we hope that with time, understanding, and support from teachers, friends, and the community, she can bridge this gap and reclaim a sense of normalcy in her life once again.
