Murder Probe Launched After Man Fatally Stabbed in Cheltenham Alleyway

A tragic incident in Cheltenham has resulted in the death of a man in his 40s following a stabbing in an alleyway between Albert Street and Hungerford Street in the St Pauls area. Gloucestershire Police were called to the scene around 2:45 pm on Tuesday, December 16.

Despite the rapid response from emergency services, including attendance by the air ambulance, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin and the coroner have been promptly informed.

In response, police have launched a murder investigation. Armed officers conducted thorough searches in the area, and three individuals—two teenagers and one man—have been arrested and remain in police custody.

Superintendent James Glansfield acknowledged the community’s shock, especially considering the young ages of the suspects. He confirmed a detailed investigation is underway, led by the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT), and a forensic examination of the scene continues under an active cordon.

Police have increased patrolling in the locality, encouraging residents to come forward with any information. Specialist officers are providing support to the victim’s family during this difficult time.
